Costco Supplier Letter

            

 

To our Valued Supplier,

Costco Wholesale has a responsibility to meet regulatory requirements concerning the management of environmentally sensitive products and materials regulated for transport. By doing so, we better protect our members and communities, minimize waste, and support our continued efforts towards environmental stewardship and Costco's Global Chemical Management Policy. Please see page 68 of Costco's Annual Sustainability Report

We are now utilizing the Supplier Product Intelligence Platform, provided by Smarter Sorting, to successfully manage all qualifying products sold throughout Costco Wholesale.

Your role in this process is to set up an account and register your product with Smarter Sorting. Once complete, Costco will then review and apply the Smarter Sorting assessment to support Costco’s regulatory and chemical compliance goals. Your cooperation and participation in this compliance program is required and appreciated.

Supplier Requirements for any item that Costco has agreed to purchase:

• Supplier navigates to the Smarter Sorting Portal Registration Page: 

• Click “Sign in Here”, if you have a Smarter Sorting account, or

• Select “Begin Registration” to create a Smarter Sorting account 

• Select “Add Products” on your account landing page to register a new item

 

Going forward, please complete this process for additional products Costco may purchase or for any existing item whose formulation, ingredients, or UPC has changed.

Costco Products Requiring Smarter Sorting Registration

Smarter Sorting charges a fee based on the number of products registered. All proprietary information provided to Smarter Sorting is kept confidential.

The following is a list of products that require registration with the Smarter Sorting program:

● Chemicals - Any formulated products - solid, liquid or gas - not intended for human consumption and items sold with chemicals

● Consumables - OTC products, nutritional supplements and vitamins, food products with alcohol, and/or foods dispensed by aerosol

● Electronic items - Any item that requires power - hardwired, corded or battery operated.

● Batteries

● Lightbulbs
