Data.SmarterSorting.com - Information Needed to Classify

To get started with registering your product on data.smartersorting.com, all we need is the UPC and Product Name. From that information, we try to pull in publicly available data and documents. You will be asked to add information that we could not locate, or you can provide all information up front by adding additional columns to your batch upload CSV.

 

You will need to ensure we have accounted for all of the individual items within the product. If an Electronic includes a battery then that will need to be indicated as well. 

 

Using a TV as an example, the items would be as follows:

 

1. TV (powered by AC)

2. Remote control

3. Batteries for remote control

 

For a spa-kit with 3 personal care items the items would be:

 

1. Foot Scrub

2. Body Lotion

3. Nail Polish

 

You will need to provide information for all of the individual items by clicking on their corresponding card, or clicking ‘new component’ if one is missing. 

 

Item Types: 

Formulated product - for formulated products we will need you to either attest to or enter the following information:

• Public ingredient information
• Brand name
• SDS - An SDS is mandatory for any formulated product where one is required per regulations. In cases where regulations do not require an SDS (for example: batteries or cosmetics), our retail partners still expect one if you’ve already created it. In those cases, the SDS field will appear as “optional” or “preferred” in the attestation flow. This allows you to continue without uploading an SDS only when one truly does not exist. However, if an SDS does exist and you choose to not upload it, your retailer may follow up later to request it or ask for edits.  

 

Battery product - for battery products we require the battery chemistry and AIS/SDS. If the battery chemistry is lithium then we also require a UN 38.3 test report. 

 

Powered product - for electronic or powered products, many retailers require the user manual. There is a checkbox to indicate if the item has a display screen, and if applicable then we also require the screen size and screen type.
